Joe the Plumber to Visit Lansing and Atlanta!

You may have heard that Joe the Plumber is going to be in Atlanta, GA on April 15th; he is. But he is going to start his day with us in Lansing. He will have a book signing before the Tea Party and later that afternoon fly south to meet with Sean Hannity in the evening. Check back for more information about the book signing!

Capitol Baptist Ministries is offering shuttle rides from their parking lot on the 15th. Shuttles will leave at 9, 10, and 11:00 am from 5100 Willoughby Road, Holt, MI 48842. Shuttles will return folks to the church after the event. Please call 517-694-1216 x10 to reserve your spot! More shuttles may be added.

ALERT!!! The ramp from 96 West to 127 North is CLOSED. Please continue on 96 West and take either Cedar Street or Martin Luther King Blvd north into the downtown area.

There is a Public Parking Ramp located one block south of the Capitol Building on Capitol Ave.

Also, some suggestions for parking from Ted, a "veteran" of downtown Lansing parking

The CATA bus system is very good and there are several lots outside the downtown Capitol area available.

The lot that comes to mind first is a Church lot located at St.Joe & Martin Luther King Drive. The State employees used to use this lot (approx. 8 blocks southwest of the Capitol) & parking is also available at the State Library ( History & Arts Library)located on Butler at Kalamazoo (approx. 7 blocks to Capitol).

I have several CafePress shops and after quite a few requests I decided it would be nice to have a T-shirt specifically for our event.

CafePress has a set price for all items then the shop keeper determines the mark up.

I have kept the mark up extremely low so that more people may take advantage of the t-shirts and other items offered. Those include t-shirts for adults, kids, plus size, doggie shirt, coffee mugs, mouse pads etc.

Property Tax Increase Alert!

Here is a notice we recieved from Leon Drolet. If you live in Macomb County, please pay attention! If you don't, read on and make sure your County isn't doing the same thing.

Miserable enough yet? Things tough enough for you yet? Not if you live in Macomb County, where your county Board of Commissioners doesn't think you pay enough in property taxes. They're going to raise your property taxes by 9%.

Yeah, I said NINE PERCENT! And I'm not saying that they're "thinking of raising your taxes" or "might raise your taxes". No, they WILL raise your county property tax millage rate from 4.2 mills to 4.5685 mills - about a 9% hike. And they'll be voting on the tax hike later this month.

How insane is it to raise taxes on suffering citizens in the middle of the worst depression in decades? Do Commissioners have any idea how bad things are for citizens right now? Do they care?

Folks, it is time to protest. A protest is scheduled, snow, rain or shine, for Wednesday, March 11 at 6:30pm in front to the Palazzo Grande Banquet and Event Center at 54660 Van Dyke (South of 25 Mile Rd.), in Shelby Twp.

Why March 11 at the Palazzo Grande? Because that's the Commissioners' final 'Town Hall Meeting' at which they explain why they want to raise your property taxes.
The protest will last from 6:30pm until the meeting begins at 7:00pm, at which time we will enter the meeting itself. We will not disrupt the meeting, but we WILL insist on speaking and asking questions at the appropriate time.

Friends, if you live in Macomb, we need you to help with this fight. Somewhere, some place, citizens must take a stand against the fiscal insanity consuming our country, state and local governments. Take that stand with us next week at the protest in Shelby Township. It's what you can do to fight back!

One last Macomb County note: the final workshops for citizens to learn how to appeal their property tax assessments are THIS WEEK. These educational workshops are a free service of the MI Taxpayers Alliance and the Wayne County Taxpayers Association.

Tomorrow, March 5th at Harrison Township Hall located at 38151 L'Anse Creuse, Harrison Township, MI 48045 at 7:00pm.

Friday, March 6th at Washington Township Hall located at 57900 Van Dyke, 1/2 mile north of 26 Mile Road. There are TWO workshops scheduled on this same evening, the first from 5:00pm until 6:45pm and the second from 7:00pm until 8:45pm.

There is another event going on in Kalamazoo on March 21st, see below. After that, mark your calendars for April 15th. Details are coming, but plan to come show them how you feel about all the money being taken from your bank account. While politicians and bureaucrats seem to think it is fine, you would never pay $300 for a toilet seat or millions to build a bridge to nowhere. Stop the pork spending. We bring home the bacon and we want to keep it!

The Beat Goes On...The News

There are some great images in this video and kudos for this station believing in us enough to show up. You will hear that there were dozens of people protesting yesterday. That is incorrect. There were hundreds of people in Lansing, thousands across the State who wanted to be there but were working, tens of thousands protesting in 20-different cities, and millions across the country who agreed with us. Despite this report, the Tea Party was not a "Bash Obama" event. It was an event with optimism, ideas, and a direct appeal for folks to work within their local communities to monitor the way the stimulus package is being spent.
